Fair Operating Practices
BCA is committed to implementing the principles of good corporate governance (GCG) as a basis for conducting fair and clean business practices and also avoiding fraud. Some aspects that are covered in the context of fair business practices are related to anti-corruption, fair business competition, the efforts to encourage the value chain to engage in social and environmental responsibility, and also the intellectual property rights (IPR).
Related to anti-corruption, BCA has an Anti-Fraud Statement from BCA’s Management, which emphasizes its commitment to implement the Zero Tolerance Policy on fraud. For that reason, BCA strictly implements a code of ethics and policies inclusively. BCA will take strict action for any violations of the Code of Ethics and Employee Code of Conduct by imposing sanctions following pertinent policies and regulations. To ensure compliance with the Code of Ethics and Employee Code of Conduct, BCA requires employees to sign the Employee Annual Disclosure Statement.
Socialization on anti-fraud, whistleblowing, as well as Code of Ethics and Employee Code of Conduct to all employees, is performed through various media channels. Some of these include the BCA Code of Ethics Handbook, training, e-learning module, video and poster, and other communication facilities. To business partners and customers, BCA conducts education and socialization on whistleblowing and anti-gratuity, including the delivery of anti-gratification letters at least twice a year, information on BCA whistleblowing channels in various media such as the bca.co.id website, Annual Reports, agreements between the Bank with customers and business partners, and through other approaches.
BCA has and implements an Intellectual Property Rights manual/policy. That is to protect BCA's intellectual property rights and avoid violations of intellectual property rights by third parties. The policy also serves as a control and accountability measure and as a recognition of the third parties’ intellectual property rights.
One of BCA's efforts to creating a socially responsible business environment is by providing education and socialization to internal and external stakeholders in the value chain process. BCA encourages partners / suppliers to manage their social responsibility by signing a BCA Partner Compliance Statement which states that the partners / suppliers:
Human Rights and employment
BCA respects human rights in its business operations. One of those is reflected in BCA's labor practices, which address the employee rights and provide social protection in the workplace. One of BCA's social responsibility initiatives related to human rights is training and empowerment provided to persons with disabilities.
In 2020, there were 13 outsourced workers with disabilities working at Digital Service Centers. All workers get the work facilities regarding the scope of work and according to their abilities. This activity is in line with the government regulation (PP) No.43 of 1998 concerning the efforts to improve welfare for people with disabilities.
BCA views human resources (HR) as an important factor for the company's success. In order to become a superior banking institution, BCA needs to develop competent and reliable human resources. Not only that, as a socially responsible company, BCA understands the importance of respecting human rights in the work environment so that employees feel safe and comfortable and can work productively.
In practice, BCA pays attention to employee rights, as stated in the 2019-2021 Collective Labor Agreement (PKB). As an illustration, one of the employees’ rights is an equal opportunity at work regardless of ethnicity, religion, race, class, or gender. Equal employment opportunities are enforced in the whole employment stages starting from the recruitment process, competency development, performance evaluation, remuneration, to promotion.
In line with goal five in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), BCA pays attention to women's career opportunities and makes it one of the company's sustainability priorities.
BCA provides equal opportunities for women to reach the highest career ladder in the company. Employee opportunities to reach the top position are based on achievements and performance requirements, without discrimination. Currently, there are 60.8% of female workers at BCA and 64.1% of the total female workers who get promotion opportunities. As of the end of 2020, 613 female branch heads or 56.7% of the total heads of BCA branch offices throughout Indonesia.
Also, BCA provides lactation room facilities in almost all head offices and regional offices, as another form of BCA support for female employees.
BCA utilizes a variety of development and training methods and approaches, such as video learning, videoconferencing, e-learning, gamification, and microlearning. Apart from training, HR development is also carried out through on the job training, tutoring, rotation, coaching, and mentoring.
BCA's education and training materials are oriented towards banking excellence in the industry, including product knowledge, credit analysis, and internal supervision. BCA also develops learning materials for soft skills, such as leadership, personality development, and communication. For employees who are retiring, BCA provides internal training and financial assistance of five million to prepare them for retirement. Internal training is given in two stages. The first stage is “ring the bell” training (age 50 years) and the second stage is “beautiful life” training (age 54 years).
Human Resources (HR) has an important role in determining company performance. BCA is committed to paying attention to the welfare and career development of employees, including creating a healthy, safe, and comfortable work environment (occupational health and safety / K3).
BCA has a comprehensive HR-related policy, including for K3. This policy includes, among other things, transparency of information for workers; implementation of Collective Labor Agreement (PKB); self-development and a clear and well-planned career; equal employment opportunities; as well as arrangements related to compensation and employee benefits.
BCA provides facilities to support women's work participation and respects workers' rights by providing a lactation room so that female employees feel comfortable working. Lactation rooms are available in almost all BCA Headquarters and Regional Offices.
Activities carried out by BCA to support employment and OHS practices include:
Furthermore, in line with the commitment to implementing strict labor and K3 regulations, during 2020 there were no work accidents and no rationalization of labor. The employee turnover rate was 3.5%. This number is relatively low compared to the average turnover of workers last year.
BCA realizes that to provide the best service for customers, it requires workers to engage first with team members, between teams, and with the company. To make this happen, BCA develops a positive work culture within the BCA internal team through the Team Engagement (TE) program. Employee engagement is measured regularly every two years in a survey to all permanent employees and Bakti interns who have worked at BCA for one year. Gallup conducted the survey independently.
To continuously improve team engagement, BCA implements programs, facilities and infrastructure, including appointing champions in each division and region, holding regular meetings with champions, creating forums in the my Collaboration Community (MC2) application, creating a WhatsApp group for champions, and holding Team Engagement Action Action (TEAAA) activities.
Environment
BCA is committed to reducing the negative impacts on environment and the environmental risk through the efficient use of energy and natural resources, and the environmental conservation continuously to improve the quality of environment. This is carried out as a measure to mitigate and reduce the global warming.
The efforts in environmental conservation are also conducted by BCA through environmental-friendly banking activities and project financing that comply with regulations and are environmentally, socially and governance (ESG) friendly.
a. Sustainable Finance
BCA seeks to increase lending for sustainable business and environmental, social and governance (LST) friendly enterprises. A number of initiatives have been made, including financing of the micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) segment; the syndication of hydroelectric power projects (PLTA); the Mini Hydro Power Plant (PLTHM); the management of living natural resources; the sustainable land use; the environmental- friendly transportation; and the water and waste water management.
Until end of December 2020, financing for sustainable businesses increased by 1,5% compared to the position as of December 31, 2019. The financing reached IDR127,03 trillion or 22,18% of total financing. Going forward, BCA is targeting an average growth of5,5% to increase the financing of portfolio for sustainable businesses.
b.Concern for the environment
Smart Building
BCA implements energy management (building energy management system / BEMS) in several office buildings as an initiative to conserve energy and enhance the environmental-friendly behavior. With BEMS, energy usage is managed efficiently and effectively, with due regard for work comfort, aesthetics, health, safety, and employees’ productivity.
BCA Landmark Pluit is the first building to apply the smart building concept. This building is an environmental-friendly building and it features the efficient operational regulation and monitoring in accordance with the Indonesian national standards (SNI). In addition, the building is equipped with a smart lighting system that is integrated with light and motion sensors, therefore the lights automatically turn on when there are people working in the area and the light level is adjusted according to the intensity of the sunlight. Temperature regulation is done by scheduling on / off and a weather sensor connected to the building automation system, thereby increasing electrical efficiency while still considering comfortability.
Energy Conservation
Going forward, BCA will continue to efficiently use the electrical energy. In addition, in order to support the renewable energy usage, since September 2019, BCA has been utilizing an on-grid solar panel system in two buildings, namely Wisma Asia II and KCU Gading Serpong. Until the end of 2020, solar panels in the Wisma Asia II building and in the KCU Gading Serpong building generated 8,027.3 kWh and 8,626.8 kWh.
One of BCA’s initiatives in energy efficiency was replacing / retrofitting lights with LED lamps since 2011. BCA has also implemented inverter technology and a variable refrigerant volume system, which allows controlling the cooling requirement in each room.
Water Conservation
To improve water consumption efficiency, BCA has implemented several initiatives. Some of them are the maintenance of water installation to prevent leakages, the use of water-efficient taps and eco-washers, and the water-saving campaigns.
BCA has intalled a sewage treatment system using a standard Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) equipped with water recycling at Wisma Pondok Indah Building and KCU Bintaro. With this system, wastewater is treated first before it is discharged to the sewer with measured water content according to the standard quality for wastewater disposal (IPAL). It can be used also to fulfill the non-hygiene needs such as watering the plants at Wisma Pondok Indah and KCU Bintaro and flushing the toilets at Wisma Pondok Indah.
Water use in the Menara BCA Building, Wisma Asia II, Wisma BCA Pondok Indah, Grha Asia, Landmark Pluit, dan Wisma Asia Alam Sutera is monitored by the Logistics and Building Division. Monitoring is the basis for BCA to evaluate the implementation of water use efficiency programs. In 2020, it was recorded that water use in the six office buildings was 67,365 m3.
Environmental-friendly Culture
BCA's support for environmental preservation is also conducted through the bank operational activities. BCA actively promotes an environmental-friendly culture to the employees in creating a green office.
Several programs to support an environmental-friendly culture at BCA Head Office and Branch Offices include:
BCA also actively facilitates customer involvement in environmental preservation efforts. To that end, BCA developed an e-statement system for savings, current accounts and credit card bills; cash withdrawal option at an ATM without receipt; STAR ATM; e-branch; and digital banking solutions (m-BCA, Klik BCA, and Sakuku).
Earth Hour
Since 2012, BCA has been actively supporting the earth hour program by turning off unnecessary lights at Menara BCA, KCU building, KCP and billboards for one hour. This program is an achievement of BCA's CSR initiative in the environmental sector.
Environmental Conservation Program
BCA continuously supports environmental conservation programs in Indonesia. The program was developed under the umbrella of Bakti BCA, on the Synergy Solution pillar (link to Synergy Solutions), such as rescue, rehabilitation and reintroduction efforts in collaboration with BOSF, a turtle protection conservation program through the Banyuwangi Sea Turtle Foundation (BSTF), mangrove planting and the NEWtrees program initiated by WWF Indonesia.
